Open consultancy position: GYBN Policy Co-coordinator

Terms of Reference

 

Position Title: GYBN Policy Co-coordinator

 

Description:

Consultancy to support GYBN's policy coordination work until 2024. Part-time or full-time position (to be agreed). The consultant would be working in tandem with one other Policy Co-coordinator in coordinating GYBN’s policy advocacy work.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  1. Co-lead policy strategizing and implementation

  2. Co-coordinate the GYBN policy team, including facilitating meetings and training volunteers

  3. Design and coordinate consultations with the GYBN community as needed 

  4. Lead policy preparations for key negotiation events under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)

  5. Support coordination of youth delegates during CBD meetings and related meetings and events

  6. Lead the development of position papers, policy briefs, and submissions based on consultative processes; provide necessary support for the policy briefs of key thematic areas

  7. Support capacity-building, including development of training designs and materials

 

Qualifications:

  • 18-34 years old

  • Experience in multilateral negotiations on biodiversity, climate or other related fields; experience with the CBD process ideal

  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Spanish or French is an advantage

  • A good understanding of issues relating to biodiversity, biodiversity governance, climate change, biodiversity/climate finance, human rights & biodiversity, and/or business & biodiversity, as well as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, is preferred

  • Would ideally have the following competencies and skills: teamwork, proactivity, problem-solving, critical thinking, decision-making, stress management, public speaking, writing, negotiation, facilitation, empathetic listening, and cultural awareness

Place of work: Primarily online, while being available to attend necessary CBD meetings and related events in person

 

Work Hours:

Approximately twenty (part-time) or forty (full-time) hours per week, depending on the agreed time commitment. Work times are flexible and can be chosen freely, but they should ensure that they can attend all team meetings and other relevant meetings, online calls, etc.
