Youth Participation in CBD COP-12
Our CBD Participation in Pyeongchang 2014
Before the 12th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP-12) held in Pyeongchang, South Korea, the participants of the GYBN international youth delegation attended a preparatory meeting, where they had the chance to network with other youth delegates, share information and experiences, improve their campaigning and lobbying skills, and expand their knowledge of biodiversity issues and the CBD procedures that were central to the theme of COP-12.
That main theme: Biodiversity for Sustainable Development. This provided young people that were working on biodiversity issues and between ages 18 and 30 with an opportunity to speak up for their generation at COP-12. Having enabled them to play an active role in the CBD procedures, we aimed to build the capacity of the youth delegates to contribute to the implementation of the Convention and to the continual progress towards achieving the Aichi Targets. The knowledge and the experience gained at COP-12 were then brought back to the participants' countries, communities and organizations.
